Top Personal Branding Reminders
Building your personal brand is IMPORTANT no matter what industry you are in. When people know who you are, they are more likely to recommend you for opportunities. Opportunities lead to recognition, monetary gain, and nonmonetary compensation. Here are 10 things you need to know about building your personal brand.
1. You are the brand. When you are clear on who you are and what you offer, you can authentic in your message.
2. Nobody can do it like you. You are 1 of 1. God made you distinct.
3. Your personal brand does not have to fully encompass all of who you are. For example, I am a style influencer and personal brand expert but I also serve as Head of Marketing at my church and enjoy reading romance novels.
4. Your brand will evolve. Nothing stays the same forever. Learning how to accept change will help your brand transcend time. For example, I started out sharing fashion collages and now I share my outfits, marriage inspiration, and personal brand-building tips.
5. Your brand colors and tone should be consistent across platforms. The more consistent you are, the more recognizable your brand will become.
6. Updating your website and headshots annually is an easy way to make your brand feel fresh. When you invest in your digital brand you show people that you are serious about your brand.
7. The grass is not greener on the other side. It is greener when you water it. Your journey is YOURS. Focusing will help you plan for the future of your personal brand.
8. Instagram is NOT the only place to build your brand. Your brand building should take place digitally and IRL.
9. Nobody wakes up one day and has a strong digital brand the next. You have to put time and sweat equity in.
10. Your brand is what people say and believe about you NOT what you say it is. Working to make those two things the same takes time. Be consistent and relentless with your messaging.
Basically, branding is what you want people to feel when they encounter you. Think about the details and don’t be afraid to try new things. Innovation is exciting and forces your audience to look a little closer.
